With success comes imitation. Who better to imitate than one's self? A spinoff quickly went into production and CSI: Miami debuted in September of 2001, followed by it's Big Apple cousin, CSI: New York in 2004.
What sets all three of the CSI shows apart from typical crime dramas is the focus on forensic technology and the use of flashy special effects to visualize the murderous effects of trauma on victims' bodies. While critics have decried the show's special effects as overblown and ranted about the excessive sex and violence in the scripts, CSI zoomed to the top of the ratings during it's first season and continues to garner over 20 million viewers each week.
